The Temple of the Sacred Tooth Relic

Seen here is the entrance to The Temple of the Sacred Tooth Relic a.k.a Sri Dalada Maligawa (that’s what its called in Sinhalese), in the beautiful city of Kandy, Sri Lanka. It houses the country’s most important Buddhist relic - a tooth of the Buddha. The city was the last capital of the Sri Lankan kings back in the day, and is a UNESCO world heritage site partly due to the presence of this temple. The tooth is said to have been snatched from the flames of the Buddha's funeral pyre, which was then smuggled into Sri Lanka back in the 4th century AD, apparently hidden in the hair of a princess. It has since moved from place to place with Srilanka, and even made its way into India, thanks to an invading Army, only to return and finally be placed here. This is a definite must-visit if you’re ever in Srilanka.
