The shape of convenience

Many of you in Kerala can relate to this pattern. Its showing up on lawns everywhere, and its getting more and more popular. Convenience is the sheer reason - no more puddles of water, unwanted grass or leaves to be raked. Its hard to argue with many that have it though, given the residents of those homes being of age and the lack of any help to maintain a lawn sans such a setup. My folks have added to the statistic, and this is from our front yard. We used to have puddles forming after rains, and wet sand always made it harder to rake up those leaves. Walking bare-feet over what once used to be, it felt like a wall between my feet and the earth below. No more playing in wet mud. Evoor, Kerala.
